Hi, I'm Mike

I've hosted my flat in Newhaven, Edinburgh, for three years. Before that I spent ten years in hospitality, running restaurants in Edinburgh and a ski chalet in the Austrian Alps. Then I qualified as a Law Accountant, checking solicitors' files, and went on to found My Probate Partner, which helps families in Scotland sort out an estate without a solicitor's bill.

Why I made the guide

When I did my own first visitor levy return, I found three problems in my platform settings that were quietly costing me money. I fixed them, wrote down every step, and made the guide I wish I'd had.

How the guides are checked

Every guide is checked against the City of Edinburgh Council's Visitor Levy Scheme guidance (Version 2.1, September 2026), and against what I see in my own Airbnb, Booking.com and visitorlevy.scot accounts. Each guide shows the date I last checked it and lists its sources. When the rules or the platforms change, I update the guides.
